Meh, I'm not a JL fan but I don't think just looking at the specs that those are good subs. Seems like a very mild sub IMO.

These were recommended to one guy if you don't wanna F with a box.
Shop Lowest Price on: Massive Audio VB12 Enclosed Car Subwoofers. Ported Subwoofer Enclosure Loaded with Single 12 600W Car Audio Subwoofer
You need to hear my stereo in my truck. I have 2 Image Dynamics 8's like I posted above on about 400w and they sound really good.

The Alpine Type R is a beast of a sub. It will do fine with a small amount of power, but can handle gobs of it and will just sound better. So whenever you decide you need more, you can just upgrade your amp. If you go with that cheaper JL, and you decide you want to step it up later, you'd have to upgrade both the sub and the amp.
And even though you say you just want a little now, there's a very good chance you'll crave more later.

The Alpine Type-R is a great value and hard to tear up. The JL WX is a very entry level sub that will not take much abuse. The W0v3 would be a better choice but a W3v3 is where I would start with JL and at that point you're beyond a Type-R price.
Make sure you have an enclosure designed for the woofer you're using. Generic vented boxes should be avoided.

JL 10W1, the silver plastic ones... You'd be surprised how hard they hit with a good box and some clean power.
You could also probably get an older 10W3v2 or v3 for 100-150. Those sound damn good too, much less pop pop than the W0 or W1.
I'm putting a 10W3v3 in my c6 with about 600 watts to it. Should sound decent.

If you ever get the chance to hear mine, I bet you'd agree that JL is doing something right.

Old school, I know. I'll never part w/ the sub since my late grandad helped my build the box.

Ive had maybe 20 JL subs and only lost one... I had the bass boost a little hot and fried a W6. JL warrantied it no questions asked.
