  • School me on projectors

So looks like the wife and I are splitting up. No loss at this point but I am getting the close and one thing I wanted to do was a projector for the living room. I don't know a whole lot about them. Doing a little searching and I have seen a lot of y'all like the espons. Any other choices. I came across this one

What y'all think? Let me know

Depending on how much ambient light you have in the room it will likely be an unpleasant viewing experience. 2500 lumes isn't very bright for most living rooms unless you can do rear projection.

This. Projectors are usually best in a dedicated media room with little or no ambient light. You can get higher powered ones but you will pay for them. If you are just wanting a big picture go get one of the Sharp Aquos 70"+ flat screens they will run you about the same price as a projector.

I have an older epson 6500UB in my living room with a big ass window in there. Just get you some blackout drapes and your good. Also helps to paint the walls a darker color.

Nice thing about the Epsons is 4000 hour bulb life vs 2000 hour from just about everyone else. That 4000 hours will come sooner than you think if you use it daily like I do. Im already on my 3rd $300 bulb. Also make sure your room is deep enough to support the size screen you want. I think mine is about 17' from the screen and the picture is 122" diagnally.

projectors are great but what to echo what lason said you definitely need to set the room up right and just assume you will need a bulb every year. even if they dont pop, they get dim making it no fun.

2500 lumens is bright IF the room is near lightless. if you get it really dark, you can typically run your bulb in econo mode where it puts out less power so the bulb lasts longer.

that projector you quoted sucks ass.

this is what you want helped buddy just set one up. Dont worry about getting a screen or whatever just find a big wall. That projector can do 1080p and 3d. playing cod on a 120 was crystal clear better than any tv it starts getting blurry/not as crisp at 150+ and at 300 if you have the room its watchable just feels like an old tv.

                        The 8350 is not 3d

I would do some checking on www.avsforum.com

Tons of info on that site. Find a budget then go do some research.

I've had a mitsubishi hc6500 for over two years now. Been happy with it and bulb's can be had fairly cheap for replacements. I think the newer version of it is the hc6800.

I have always preferred Mitsubishi projectors over most.
