8 Speakers + 5.1 - 1 Receiver

Greetings,
The house I'm moving to has 8 speakers. There are 2 Denon amps in-house, unknown specifications as of this time. I'm also wanting to utilize a 5.1 system for home theater purposes. I can dumb it down to 2.1 if needed.

Long story short, I'd like 1 receiver to control all speakers. I'd like that receiver (since it'll be in a closet type place) to be controllable via an iPad app.

High level, is that possible? Or am I better off controlling the 8 house speakers with one receiver and the 5.1 with another? Either way, would like it controlled with an iPad if at all possible.

Appreciate any input on this one.

I can most certainly do that once we close. Closing seems like a good shot, but it'll be mid December or so.

My main concern is the iPad control stuff. I asked around at a few of the chain stores and they just try to sell what they have. Which is a 1500-2000 dollar receiver and then about another 2000 in additional things. I don't mind spending the money - I just don't want so many parts and pieces.

you dont need any of that stuff. you can just output audio from any computer to that denon receiver and control it any number of ways.

since you said ipad, that means you have itunes. ipad + remote (free app) + computer with itunes = control and play whatever you want over that audio system.

Damn it, I did not even think about that route. Was thinking just traditional receivers - that may be an option too for sure.

If you're wanting to control multiple speakers in multiple areas, you'll probably need a large, multi-channel amp or multiple 2 channel ones. I have this unit at home and have had it for years powering the patio speakers. It has two inputs that are auto switching, so one is for the cable box and the other is for iPod, etc. (whatever I want to plug into it. I have the TV volume output to the amp so that it's variable controlled by the TV remote. The same for the iPod plug in. I've been very pleased with this amp for the price.

Oh, and it also has a low level output if you wanted to send it to other zones along with a second set of outputs for another set of speakers (to go with the A/B switch) if you wanted. I just installed it in a closet and ran all my wires to it. It was never seen from anywhere in or out of the house.

Depending on the model Denons, bi-amping would be the quick and easiest way to run all those speakers utilizing all the available speaker connections. That is providing both the amp and speakers are bi-amp capable.

Or just buy an external 3 or 5 channel amplifier like a XPA3 and run it in conjunction with the Denons.
