  • Stereo guys, help me pick a subwoofer for my truck

I 'm building a subwoofer for my regular cab Ranger. I've made all the measurements and the BIGGEST cabinet I can fit behind the drivers seat is .5 cu ft.

I've narrowed it down to a Dayton Audio DVC 4 ohm 8" that I can put in a .5 cu ft cabinet with a 2" x14" long port tunned to 33 hz. The driver delivers 87 db @ 2.83 volts.

The other choice is a JBL SVC 4 ohm 8" I'd have to use a sealed .5 cu ft cabinet, but it delivers 91 db @ 2.83 volts.

I love the way ported speakers sound, BUT the JBL is 4 db more efficient. Since Crutchfield ships for free & Parts Express charges $12, the cost of 2 drivers is about the same. I'll be using a 100 watts x 2 Amp.

    Which would you pick?

Just steal 91CoupeMike's shit. He'll prolly just blame it on the "jiggaboos" anyway.

I like JBL woofers. Never had a complaint with them.

2 JL audio 8w6's and a JL 500x1 class d . All the punch in the world . If you are going for boom cut out the cab and bed and do 2 15" kicker L7's and a old zx 2500 kicker amp .

Dude, I'm 49 years old, I just want solid bass - I'm not interested in impressing the homies with how much I can make the truck rattle & buzz.

BTW, I built my first vehicle sub in 1982 -2 MTX 10's in a 3 cu. ft. ported cabinet

Cool then 1 JL8W6 and a solid 250w RMS plenty of bottom fill and the seat will go all the way back get a set of focal 5 1/4 separates and about 150W on them and you will have a solid Q system . I have 3 JL 10w6's and listen to WBAP . I guess I've out grown loud , my new tsx is gonna stay stock with maybe 1 10 for fill if I don't get the upgrade with fact sub .

Scott, i have two of the JBL, and i love them.i am only putting a little over 100 watts to them and sound good. at low volume, you can still hear the bass. but they take a pounding like a bar fly on a lonely saturday night at closing time.

i have never had a factory system that sounded good enough not to need improvement somewhere

The factory stereo was dual cone 6 x8's & a head unit with 15 watts/channel

Have you looked at the Image Dynamics ID8's? I'm running 2 in my truck on a 500w PPI old school amp and they blend really well and sound great. I'd be willing to show them off to you if you like. 1qft sealed box.
