I just bought a '99 S-10 that I am gonna use as a daily. I would like to put all new speakers, head unit, and a single sub woofer and an amp inside for a little upgraded sound. I don't want to spend a ton of money but I want a decent sound and whatnot. I don't know where to start. I want all of my stuff to match up but I don't know what wattage and RMS wattage matches up? Please help me out. Where do I start?

Well I was looking at a site called:

I was thinking something along the lines of a JVC head unit under $150, all speakers for less than $125, and a 12" sub w/ amp for less than $300...

When your looking at speakers rms wattage is the continuous power the speakers will take max wattage is just what it sounds like its the maximum watts of the speakers. Rms is what counts also when your looking at amp and sub combos you'll want to get an amp that does the rms of the sub at whatever the ohm load of the sub is ie if you have a 300w max sub that does 150 rms at 4 ohm you'll want an amp that does 150w rms at 4 ohms
