With the legal issues of jail breaking a phone being dropped, those on contract with carriers other than ATT can now own a functioning iPhone.

Pretty much people have wanted one for a while, but have been stuck in a contract.

People like the service of X carrier, but really like the iPhone.

Or maybe their company pays for service on X carrier, but now they can get the iPhone.

I guess it's all about keeping up with the Jones-es.
