they can void your warranty with a couple key strokes on a computer for ANY reason... if they don't like the color of your socks when you bring a vehicle in for service, they can void your warranty. bam, it's done, there's NOTHING you can do about it.

you will have to prove, in court, that the modifications you performed didn't cause problems. legal fees will often cost more than the necessary repair and often more than the value of the vehicle when it rolled off the lot!

I see both of your points, however, I think Cooter was basically saying the law is great but the dealership can make you life hell. If it boils down to court costs and lawyer fees what the hell is the point of the warranty?

Personally, I don't see how a cat-back is really going to cause major engine problems. However, I can see it being a nightmare trying to PROVE an intake or some other bolt on did not cause a problem - for warranty purposes.

Try it on a Dodge diesel... melt down a piston on a bone stock truck and they'll call out fuel contamination (even though they have a water separator and filter) and void your warranty.

They'll call out fuel contamination on ANYTHING. Ask Brad (stangGT40) He was having problems with his truck, and I warned him they were going to play the fuel contamination card...

they did... it ended up being a simple fix...

GM and Ford are far better to deal with on warranty issues than Dodge

Yeah I sold mine when the retarded service writer told me I had to change the oil ever 3k miles or they'd void my warranty. He even had some brochures with the recommended interval and no seperate column or asterisk for diesels. My owner's manual said differently but it was at home. Screw it, I didn't really need the truck anyways.

Skip, Dodge dealers don't think the same way you do. Try buying an engine from one, an 02 Intrepid for example. They'll quote you $4000+ and not even mention aftermarket options. Call a Ford or GM dealer though and unless they are retards they'll have a line on aftermarket remans that are half that price. Everyone knows their 41TE transmissions have solenoid problems and when you take a car to them they'll hit you full list at $350+ for the solenoids instead of buying aftermarket ones for $100 and marking them up some. Either that or they'll automatically tell you the transmission is bad and give you a $2500 estimate to replace it.

yep, between the techs at dallas dodge and the dodge rep, that i'm fairly certain didn't even exist, it was like dealing with monkeys.

what turned out to be a rocker arm off the rail, holding a valve open, started off being that i had dirty oil and fuel and i needed a new motor. they definitely protect themselves on the front end! i had all of my oil change and fuel filter change receipts, but that still didn't seem to matter much. this supposed "dodge rep" said that my oil and fuel were dirty, so they would only pay for half. lol after they pulled it apart and found that it was just a rocker issue, they fixed it...then they neglected to tighten the fan back, so it almost fell off while driving...then they messed with my ac (which was working fine) and tried to tell me that i had a bad evaporator and it was going to be $1200 to fix. i took it to christian brothers, and it was just a hose, near the radiator, with a hole rubbed in it. quick and easy fix... dallas dodge "ran tests" on my ac 3-times and couldn't find a leak, then they finally said that it was the evaporator. the christian bros place put dye in the lines and said that they couldn't find any other leaks at all.

oh yeah, as far as that dodge rep goes; they wouldn't give me any of his information (not even his first name), and when i called dodge corporate, they did the same thing. they just said that the field rep has the last say and wouldn't give me any information, so i could at least talk to the guy. i really don't think that he even exists.

that reminds me of this house i was looking at...i just wanted to buy it, rehab it, and sell it. it's very nice (probably a 400k house) with 3/4" hand scraped wood floors, nice tile, great finishes everywhere, etc. the homeowner bought it new, but eventually moved out and abandoned the house after the foundation moved so much that the damned windows looked like they were about to fall out, in places...the really nice fire place was cracked everywhere, etc. this house is less than 5-years old, now...and they moved out of it about 3-years ago. the soil prep must've been really bad and possibly had a bad foundation design, but i think the major issue is the fact that the lot next to it was never built on, and the soil level is much higher...(all of the problems are on that side) the water is just draining under that house and washing out the soil.

True story. Took my 03 GT to Grapevine Ford for misfire issues. At the time, the car had a Steeda CAI, exhaust and gears. They call me at the end of the day saying since my car has had nitrous on it, there is nothing more they can do under warranty.

The Steeda CAI have a hole for the IAT sensor. My sensor was in the maf. The CAI didn't come with the rubber bung, so I covered it with aluminum tape. So because of that hole, they refused warranty service. I went round and round with Ford, but the always side with the dealership..

I drove it 12K miles and put a CAI and exhaust on it along with having it tuned by a Saleen authorized tuner. The engine blew up due to a high RPM rod failure and two Ford dealerships said that Ford would reject it because I had drag radials and rubber in the fender wells. Neither dealer even popped the hood and I didn't mention anything other than it had a Saleen blower installed by Ford dealer.

Needless to say I'm paying 13Kish out of pocket to repair my car. (Not by Ford)

I have replaced a few common rail 5.9s due to having a torched piston and being denied any warrantee .
