Self employment is your best bet to make any real money. A few of my clients do courier services or commercial landscape.
Legal courier is a pretty good gig. Get in with a few lawyers and ferry their documents and subpoenas to and from the court or person being subpoenaed. I thought about doing it as a second income, but just got a promoted so I don't have the time.
<-- not a felon. Just throwin' that out there.

I have had great luck and have found them to make very loyal employees. I have a company that does swimming pool repairs, maintenance, and remodels.

Just because an application asks, doesn't mean they won't hire a felon. Sometimes they just want to know if it was a violent crime, or theft. If you have either of those on your record, than you're going to be hard up to get a decent job. I was put on felony probation a little over a year ago for possession. While it definitely makes things harder people are still willing to look the other way when they see that it was a marijuana charge, and not a violent crime. Luckily my probation is deffered, and I won't have the conviction when I finish. It really showed me how much harder life gets when you don't worry about consequences though. Honestly after having to go through all this, if I had my own business I would make a point to hire at least a couple people with a prior felony. As hard as it is to find a good job anymore, its even harder for felons. Many of them are still good people, and they appreciate you and the job so much more for giving them a chance.
