  • Nitrous bottle recertification

The 1993 I bought 4 years ago came with a Nitrous Works wet kit. The bottle is dated 2005 and has no other certification stamps on it. The previous owner inherited the car from his father and never used the Nitrous, the bottle was full when I bought the car, tried it and it felt like a 25 shot, even though it's pilled for 125. Ran the bottle empty and did not want to risk filling it due to its age.

Now that I'm in the middle of a heads/cam/intake swap, I want to take a look at the system and see about getting it working again. One issue is the age of the bottle, I do not want to get it filled without getting it inspected.

Anyone know a place close to Anna, north of Mckinney, that does this?

Possibly at a welding gas supply shop?

Yup, those places will inspect as well as remove the neck and fix it.

Either a welding shop, or maybe a Scuba shop.

I called Airgas and they said they could do it, cost is $36, but turnaround time is about 30 days. They send the bottles to their Grand Prairie location, then when they have a full load, they get sent of for testing. The person on the phone suggested I try some places that service fire extinguishers so I gave Texoma Fire Equipment in Denison a call and they said that they do provide hydrotesting and the turnaround time is a few days. Also they told me that worst case scenario pricing would be $45. I just dropped the bottle off and they said it should be done by Monday. I'll make sure to update with the results.

Picked the bottle up yesterday and total cost was $20. New date was stamped on it and certificate of inspection was filed. All good to go!

When you go to pick it up, look across the street the solo cup red building. That was my bar 10 years ago. It's been boarded up and closed with no maintenance since so it looks even more run down than when I had it.
